Barfad

Barfad is a typical west highland croft house build in the 1880's. We moved here in 1997, and the house came with about an acre and a half of land.

We started planting willow for coppice in the 1997/8 winter and have gradually been extending the beds ever since. We now have about half an acre of willow beds.
The learning curve was steep; we had much help from friendly basket makers and willow sculptors.

Somebody astute once said to me:
"Willow growing is one of those things that may not be great for the pocket - but is excellent for the soul!"
And that's how it's proved to be.
